Perfect Flow #13: Living Orienteering with Ivar Lundanes

  • by

In this episode of the Perfect Flow Podcast I talk with elite orienteer Ivar Lundanes about his experiences training, competing and coaching orienteering. Ivar is the younger brother of World Champion Olav Lundanes, and has been fully immersed in the orienteering community his whole life.

The main topics we cover are:

  • Ivar’s job for Norwegian club Tyrving
  • Youth in sport
  • The orienteering “package”
  • Ivar’s pathway to elite athlete
  • The Scandinavian season
  • Stories from 10-Mila and Jukola
  • Expectations vs reality
  • Managing stress
  • Inspiration vs copying

We reference Thierry Gueorgiou’s Attackpoint log: attackpoint.org/log.jsp/user_15725. Here, the king of middle distance goes into great detail about his training.

I really enjoyed this conversation with Ivar and will be looking to extract ideas and stories from many more of the great characters who live immersed in orienteering.
