In this episode of the Perfect Flow podcast I talk with ultra runner Shaun Collins about his experience of long races. Shaun is well know in the trail running community as a race director through Lactic Turkey, for stunts such as the Trillary (3 times over the Hillary Trail in succession), and recently for being the one of the first to complete the Revenant.
The topics we cover:
- Mindset in ultra running
- Revenant
- The low carb approach to fuelling

Can you share any meditation resources? I have really struggled to find one that resonates for me but know how good it would be in 100km/milers?
Hi, I did Vipassana at Dhama Medini last year and the methodology taught by Sam Harris in his book and app called Waking Up works well for me too. As you learn you may find a preference for either a practise-heavy approach or a more cognitive and philosophical approach. I’ve experienced how transformative the practise-heavy approach is a avoiding the undercurrent of emotion, but in a race setting I find the rational understand of what pain and thoughts really are to be more useful at this stage.
