Perfect Flow

  • by

Perfect Flow is my project over the next year. It is my pursuit of optimum well-being and performance for myself and for others. It is also me just being me and doing what I like to do.

On the endurance sport front I would like to continue to improve myself and also take on some more athletes. I want to give the Training Tilt app a test, currently run from perfectflow.nz. I’m keen to get some feedback on it so hit me up if you want a free programme and we can give it a test.

On the content front, I’m finding more time to write about things I find interesting and important. But apart from frothing on this blog about well-being and performance, I’m starting a podcast to, well, froth about well-being and performance! But, with other people this time! I’m constantly having great conversations with extremely interesting people and I know there is so much value in these exchanges, if only the ideas could be distributed effectively. I also prefer talking more than reading and writing so it makes even more sense for me to move in the direction of audio.

The podcast is currently available through Stitcher, Spotify and through genebeveridge.nz/podcast. Not sure what is going wrong with iTunes, I’m working on it though. I’ll also upload them to Youtube.

Currently I have two conversations with two of New Zealand’s top orienteers, recorded while I was at the World Orienteering Champs this year. Just 2 days before Tim won his silver medal, and Lizzie made her return to WOC after heart surgery. Tim and Lizzie both live overseas so it was a great opportunity to connect them with the community back in New Zealand while I got the hardware and software running. This was a useful test run for me and the feedback, although limited to small community, was great.

If you think just talking to athletes is the scope of my intent with the podcast, prepare to be surprised. Here is my best guess of what you might learn about if you follow me over the next year:

  • Physiology and how you should be treating your body
  • Training and racing in endurance and adventure sport
  • The gut microbiome as your life-giving overlord
  • Nutrition for performance and health
  • Mindset, meditation and how to use emotions
  • The state of mental health of well and unwell people

I can see ways of presenting these topics lightly as stories and ways of spending hours wading through the technical details as a more formal dialogue. I see a time and place for both.
